Dear Reader,

Hello and welcome!

I'm Kelsey, a 2D Artist / Illustrator from New Zealand. Since I was a wee thing I have been obsessed with art in all its forms. From classic literature to videogames, I love it all. The hand made stuff that is.

I specialise in digital fantasy drawings where dark whimsy meets the obscurely beautiful, perfect for cover art, special edition illustrations, and product designs. But I didn't always start out this way.

At the University of Auckland I went to Elam School of Fine Arts where I studied hand printed darkroom photography and filmmaking. I also took a plethora of theoretical classes including one electoral paper about Antarctica's biological science which I swear to this day I thought I was acing only to find out I was just passing. For my final year I somehow managed to make an entire feature film about a zombie post apocalypse exploring the human condition and ended up with first class honours because of it. Take that BioSci.

I wasn't quite done with my studies after graduation so I went on to Auckland University of Technology to get a Masters degree in Communications where I studied the narrative design in The Last of Us. I wanted to know why it was such an impeccable example of game and story design, so I could maybe make my own some day.

Armed with a second first class honours degree (shameless brag) I ventured into the creative world completely out of my depth with the corporate hustle, until I finally decided to throw caution and sense straight at the wind and go after my artistic dreams.

Can you see the common denominator? In all my artistic loves the thread connecting them is storytelling. And thus I am here, diving into the wonderful world of fantasy art and illustration while beginning to be the architect and gardener of my own stories. With stars in my eyes for a whim to see them adapted into different media.

The original art I'm creating now centers around the times. A combination of the defiant spirit of my teens and the educated version of me now. My ultimate mission though, is to spread hope and joy even in times of terror and pain so we can leave a lasting legacy for a better world. Happiness and joy is a form of resistance, after all.

If you're still reading, yay. I'm impressed both by your attention span and maybe *fingers crossed* my writing skills too.

If you have any burning questions about me, my art, or want to work with me, send me an email at hello@kelseyc.art.

Love always,
Kelsey xx
